Grahovac named officer of the year: Munising native’s service at Negaunee PD recognized

From right, Ishpeming Police Chief Steve Snowaert presents Negaunee City Police Department’s Detective/Sgt. Craig Grahovac with the 2019 Police Officer of the Year Award from the Marquette County Law Enforcement Administrators Association Thursday morning in the Northern Michigan University Great Lakes Room. Negaunee City Police Chief Pat Ketola nominated Grahovac for the award, citing his employment history and achievements as an officer over the last year in the nomination he submitted for Grahovac. Grahovac is a Munising native and comes from a family of law enforcement officers as his father Anthony Grahovac was the undersheriff of Alger County. His uncle Paul Grahovac also served with the Alger County Sheriff’s Office and was killed in the line of duty in 2001. After graduating from the Northern Michigan University Regional Police Academy, Grahovac began working at the Negaunee City Police Department in 2010. In 2017, he was promoted to detective sergeant. Last year, Grahovac took charge of the investigation into a robbery of Irontown Pasties in Negaunee and was able to aid in locating the suspect and building the case against him, which ultimately led to his prosecution. “Detective/Sgt. Grahovac’s dedication to the law enforcement profession and the citizens he serves is something to be admired and commended,” Ketola said in Grahovac’s nomination. (Courtesy photo )
